We offer Group classes for adults (age 18 and over) from beginners to
advanced, and Private instruction for any age (including therapeutic
sessions for people dealing with illness, injury, chronic pain).
Young adults (ages 15-17) may be able to attend classes, but prior
approval is required. Serenity Yoga Studio is a small
studio which provides a wonderful environment for beginners to learn and
the more advanced student to explore new postures and flows. Small
classes allow detailed interactive instruction and individualized
attention for all. It is our intention to teach each student what
they need to know to modify postures to suit their bodies.
"I really try to work with the way a student's
body is on any given day. So there is no push to do something just
because someone else can do it or he/she was able to do it last class.
We work at adapting the poses to fit your body, rather than making your
body fit the pose. We pay a lot of attention to breathing and moving
with the breath."
Toni, Director Serenity Yoga & Wellness Center
Everything is provided for a complete and supported Yoga practice and
relaxation. If you tend to perspire a lot,
we recommend that you bring a large towel to cover the cloth relaxation
mats to respect the students that follow you in other classes.

GROUP YOGA CLASSES
Our Group classes are limited to 11 students (age 18 and over). The following describes the
level of classes we offer - you will see these designations on the Yoga
Class Schedule. Classes that are identified as "Gentle/Mod",
"Gentle", "Candlelight Yoga", "Yoga & Guided Meditation", or
"Yoga for Professional Health Care Givers" on the schedule are suitable for
all levels of students, from beginners
with no Yoga experience to more advanced students.
-
BEGINNER
- These are great classes for people new to Yoga and for the
experienced practitioner who wishes to review postures with a beginner's
mind.
- In each class, one or two postures will be selected for very
detailed instruction and demonstration. Questions and discussion are
encouraged. The remainder of the class will guide and instruct
postures and breathing techniques at a pace suitable for beginners.
- Emphasis is on the details of alignment in each posture,
breathing, and modifications to suit each individual.
- Each student
learns how to interpret the signals from their bodies related to safety
vs challenge. Each student is empowered to take care of themselves
rather than try to reach a goal.
- The environment is one of
non-competitiveness with compassion and appreciation for the abilities
of your body.
- Remember - the only requirement to be able to do a Yoga practice is to be
able to breathe!
-
GENTLE
- For beginners or those with experience who want to take it slow and
easy
- Easy warm-ups, gentle stretching, and basic postures.
- The environment is one of
non-competitiveness with compassion and appreciation for the abilities
of your body.
-
MODERATE
- For students who have practiced yoga postures
and breathing for 6 months or more.
- The intention of this class is to enter into
an internal, meditative practice of yoga.
- Participants are expected to:
- be experienced with practicing Yoga
- know how to make choices to take care of
themselves
- make modifications as needed to release
strain and adjust for safety.
- Postures may be held sometimes to allow
concentration to deepen. Our intention is that each student is
empowered to honor the wisdom of her/his own body and come into and
out of postures as needed.
- The environment is one of
non-competitiveness with compassion and appreciation for the abilities
of your body.
- NOTE: Anyone with injuries or recent surgeries will be better served
in a Beginner or a Gentle class unless they've practiced Yoga for a
while.
- GENTLE/MODERATE
- These classes are suitable for all levels, from beginner to more
experienced students.
- Postures will be guided in stages, with easier versions offered
first, followed by instruction for more challenging expressions of the
postures.
- These classes generally encompass the Beginner, the Gentle and the
Moderate descriptions above.
- The environment is one of
non-competitiveness with compassion and appreciation for the abilities
of your body.
- For the Monday and Tuesday 9:30 am classes, there is a sharing
circle near the beginning of the class. This is a way of checking
in; there is no obligation to speak if you choose not to.
- CANDLELIGHT YOGA
- A very special Gentle class.
- Enhance your flexibility, balance, and improve state of mind with a
blissful 75 minutes of Kripalu Yoga by candlelight (we use

FPRIVATE AND
THERAPEUTIC YOGA SESSIONS
- Private Yoga sessions are available for those who wish to learn in a
one-on-one environment, to review posture details, to supplement group
classes, to learn modifications for specific needs (for example, chronic
shoulder pain; tight hips).
- Therapeutic Yoga sessions are prepared to
address specific medical conditions (for example, Sciatica, Scoliosis,
Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, COPD). These conditions require
that a practice be designed that is tailored to individual needs.
We are not medically trained, but we have studied and attended workshops
on how to adapt traditional Yoga postures to a wide variety of
conditions.
- It may be necessary to coordinate with your doctor/physical
therapist/chiropractor to ensure that your Yoga sessions complement your
treatment plan. In some cases, written or oral permission from
your medical team may be requested.
- If you have a problem or condition that needs to be seen by a
doctor, we will not start a therapeutic Yoga practice with you until you
have seen the doctor and have an 'OK' to proceed with Yoga.
- Discounts are available if you are enrolled in group classes, if
you prepay for 4 or more private sessions, or if you are a Senior (65+). (see
Pricing).
